Serious art damage

I got a call from Aaron, our street maintenance supervisor, that a sculpture had been slammed into by a car on the corner of Hwy 111 and Hwy 74. There was a very sick feeling that came over me as we had just installed a wonderful sculpture by the French artist, Jean-Louis Corby, there. The car's driver had lost control of it at 40mph according to witnesses. If the sculpture hadn't been in the location it was, the car might have launched into the offices of the Wachovia Bank, seriously hurting anyone in its' path. Here are a couple of photos of the piece titled: "The Danseur" before the accident and after. We were extremely fortunate to find a foundry in North Hollywood that knows and understands French bronze casting techinques and alloys. They will be working with the insurance company to restore the piece to its' prestine condition.

Public Art - Palm Desert

Hi Everyone

The Palm Desert Public Art Program has created this blog for the citizens, visitors and friends of Palm Desert to share their ideas and images of public art. It can be about Palm Desert's public art and programs or about other public art collections throughout the world that you find interesting and would like to share with others.

I would like to share with you a brand new sculpture addition to our permanent collection that we just installed this week on the east end of the El Paseo median across from the Wells Fargo Bank, titled: "Marfa" by the Minneapolis artist, Michael Bigger. You can't miss it, it's real large and yellow. Here's a couple pictures of it.
